Adeyeye predicts decisive Tinubu victory in South-West in 2027

Olusola Adeyeye, a former member of the National Assembly and South-West coordinator of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will win the region in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adeyeye said any party expecting an easy contest would be mistaken. He said the APC was working hard to secure victory and expressed confidence that the party would win “big” across the South-West.

Adeyeye said unity would be central to the outcome. In his view, a party that enters an election divided could lose, while no party in Nigeria’s current political configuration would defeat the APC in areas where the ruling party remained united. He said he was particularly focused on retaining the South-West for Tinubu and declared that the President would not lose the region.

Adeyeye nevertheless referred to the possibility as a hypothetical scenario, recalling that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had previously lost the South-West but still went on to become president. On Osun, Adeyeye said the APC would win the state in 2027. He argued that some of the popularity enjoyed by Governor Ademola Adeleke was linked not only to the governor himself but also to his elder brother and father.

Adeyeye was also asked whether former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, now associated with the African Democratic Congress, posed a threat to the APC. He questioned the ADC’s performance in Osun and said Aregbesola was not a candidate in the forthcoming general election. Adeyeye acknowledged Aregbesola’s personal popularity, saying he would be difficult to defeat if he were a candidate.

However, he argued that Aregbesola could not automatically transfer public affection for himself to another person. His remarks set out the APC campaign’s confidence while recognising that the election would not be easy for any party.
