Albania has signed the Artemis Accords, joining the coalition of countries committed to peaceful, transparent and cooperative space exploration, NASA said. The signing took place at NASA headquarters in Washington on September 21, 2026. Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha signed on behalf of Albania.
NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson welcomed the country as the 73rd signatory. The accords set out principles for exploration of the Moon, Mars and beyond. NASA says they include peaceful and transparent activity, assistance to people in need, access to scientific data and measures to prevent interference between space activities.
They also call for the preservation of historically significant sites and artefacts. Hoxha said Albania’s decision reflected its commitment to international law, multilateral cooperation and sustainable exploration. NASA also cited Albania’s Earth-observation satellites, launched in 2023, and its participation in the NASA Space Apps Challenge.
