Energy Efficiency Services Limited will present Andhra Pradesh’s clean-cooking programme for 55,746 Anganwadi centres at an international study tour in Germany. The scheme uses induction stoves and modern utensils, with projected savings in cooking costs and an estimated annual reduction of 28,327 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Andhra Pradesh’s clean-cooking programme for 55,746 Anganwadi centres will be presented at an international knowledge-exchange event in Ravensburg, Germany, from September 28 to October 2, 2026. Energy Efficiency Services Limited, which was invited by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, will share the state’s experience at the study tour. The event will focus on energy efficiency, clean-energy solutions and sustainable development.

EESL chief executive Akhilesh Kumar Dixit is scheduled to make a presentation on the programme, which is being implemented through the Women and Child Welfare Department. The initiative is designed to connect energy efficiency with social welfare and nutrition services on a large scale. The programme replaces conventional cooking practices in Anganwadi centres with energy-efficient induction stoves and modern utensils.

According to an official release cited by The Hindu, the change is intended to provide safer and cleaner kitchens for Anganwadi workers and children. The initiative is also expected to reduce energy use and cooking costs. Officials estimate that it will deliver about 30% savings in cooking costs, create smoke-free kitchens and improve indoor air quality.

The programme is projected to avoid approximately 28,327 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Its scale has been presented as an example of combining clean technology, environmental sustainability and public welfare infrastructure. The initiative forms part of the wider National Efficient Cooking Programme and reflects the Indian government’s effort to modernise cooking facilities in public institutions and reduce reliance on conventional cooking methods.

The German study tour will give EESL an opportunity to outline how the Andhra Pradesh model has been implemented across thousands of centres. The source material did not provide details of the programme’s total cost, its completion timetable or the number of centres already converted.
