A ₹1 lakh-crore Global Horticulture Hub is due to be launched in Madanapalle on October 2, with the stated aim of turning Rayalaseema into a major fruit-producing region. The project will cover 10 districts and combine public funding with private investment in farming, processing, storage and exports.

Andhra Pradesh is set to launch a ₹1 lakh-crore Global Horticulture Hub in Madanapalle on October 2, in a project intended to transform Rayalaseema into what the government describes as the “Fruit Bowl of India”. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Deputy Chief Minister K.

Pawan Kalyan are scheduled to formally launch the initiative. Madanapalle, known for tomato, tamarind and mango production, is the centre of the state’s horticulture push. The project will be implemented in three phases.

According to the plan, ₹40,352 crore will be provided through the Purvodaya scheme, while ₹60,000 crore will be mobilised from private investors. The hub will cover 10 districts, including Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati. It will span 303 mandals and 5,869 villages, with a stated coverage of 14.41 lakh hectares of horticultural land.

The government expects production to double to 435 lakh tonnes and says 9.6 lakh farmers could benefit. The initiative will focus on crops including mango, banana, tomato, pomegranate, dragon fruit and avocado. The plan extends beyond cultivation.

It includes food-processing units, cold-storage facilities and export links, with support intended to reach farmers from the provision of seed through to overseas markets. District officials and horticulture authorities have been preparing for the launch, while farmers across Rayalaseema are awaiting details of the benefits. The groundwork for the project has been under way for six months, according to the source material.
