The result completed an unbeaten campaign for Australia. Italy had also reached the final with an undefeated record, but the Rollers controlled the game from the opening quarter and held the lead at every break.
Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 28 points and was described by ABC News Australia as brilliant in the victory. Captain Tom O'Neill-Thorne contributed 20 points, 16 assists and seven rebounds, while Bill Latham added 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Australia's advantage was also reflected in its overall play. The Rollers recorded 29 assists to Italy's 19 and outrebounded their opponents 35-25. Their defensive pressure forced Italy into 13 turnovers, while Australia committed nine.
The win reinforced Australia's standing in international wheelchair basketball, with the Rollers adding another championship after a 12-year wait between their 2014 title and this victory. Italy's unbeaten run ended in the gold-medal game.
