BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Congress and Rahul Gandhi of applying double standards by demanding probes in opposition-governed states while remaining silent over an alleged Karnataka recruitment examination leak. Investigators have alleged that candidates paid for leaked material, while the state government is challenging a court-ordered SIT probe.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Congress and its Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of double standards over an alleged recruitment examination leak in Karnataka. BJP national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra raised the issue at a press conference on Thursday. He referred to the Veterinary Officers Recruitment Examination held on January 8 and 9, 2026, for 400 posts.

According to the report, Karnataka’s Criminal Investigation Department and the Enforcement Directorate alleged that Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, then Controller of Examinations at the Karnataka Public Service Commission, helped leak the examination paper to a middleman. About 1,400 candidates appeared for the examination and 329 were selected. Investigators alleged that at least 11 candidates paid a combined ₹1.52 crore to obtain the leaked material.

Patra also questioned an alleged ₹22 lakh diamond necklace said to have been purchased by the IAS officer using proceeds connected to the alleged leak. He asked Rahul Gandhi to explain who had the necklace, to whom it was gifted and when. The Karnataka High Court directed the establishment of a Special Investigation Team on September 21 to investigate alleged irregularities in the examination.

The Karnataka government subsequently approved a Special Leave Petition challenging that order in the Supreme Court. Patra questioned why the Congress-led state government was challenging the High Court’s directive. He said the party remained silent about controversies in states where Congress was in power while demanding investigations in states governed by the BJP.

The supplied report contains the BJP’s allegations and the procedural developments but does not include a response from Congress, Rahul Gandhi or the Karnataka government to Patra’s remarks.
