BJP leader urges Indians to support local products and artisans
BJP Andhra Pradesh in-charge Aravind Singh Bhadoria has urged consumers to promote indigenous goods and support local weavers, artisans and manufacturers. Speaking at a Khadi fair in Vijayawada, he linked the appeal to economic self-reliance and the government’s “Local for Vocal” initiative.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Aravind Singh Bhadoria has urged people to promote indigenous products and support local weavers, artisans and manufacturers. Bhadoria, the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh in-charge, made the call after inaugurating a Khadi fair in Vijayawada on Thursday. The event was held to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
He said India had a long tradition of producing textiles, food and other goods for domestic use and export. According to Bhadoria, the colonial economic system weakened Indian industries by taking raw materials to Britain, manufacturing products there and selling them back in India. He recalled Gandhi’s promotion of Swadeshi and Khadi during the freedom movement and said the current government was encouraging local manufacturing through its “Local for Vocal” initiative.
BJP state co-in-charge Vanathi Srinivasan said Gandhi’s ideals should be put into practice. She pointed to Andhra Pradesh’s potential in handloom and traditional crafts, including Kalamkari and Srikalahasti handicrafts. Srinivasan appealed to people to allocate at least 30% of their clothing purchases to handloom products.
BJP organisational general secretary Madhukar said Khadi had received a new image and had entered mainstream fashion. State general secretary Nagothu Ramesh Naidu said Khadi had gained wider visibility under the present government and that fairs could help promote Swadeshi. The programme was attended by BJP leaders, including MLC Pothula Sunitha.
Separately, the party’s Mahila Morcha organised an Anganwadi Utsav in Vijayawada, where workers were honoured for their service.
