A 40-year-old woman is set to face charges over a collision in Canberra’s north that killed two cyclists and injured another, according to ABC News Australia.
ACT Policing previously said the woman was driving a sedan that struck five cyclists on Gungahlin Drive in Palmerston early on August 27. Police have now issued her with a summons to appear in court following an investigation by the force’s Major Collision Team.
The driver is expected to face two charges of culpable driving causing death and one charge of negligent driving causing actual bodily harm. She is due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on October 20.
Thirty-two-year-old Bridie Lee died at the scene of the collision. Thirty-nine-year-old Ryan Riethmuller died several days later in hospital.
The pair had been involved in Canberra’s triathlon community. Hundreds of mourners took part in a tribute ride last weekend, and a memorial ride was held on Saturday morning to honour the two cyclists.
