A child has died and two other children and a woman are in critical condition after an alleged stabbing in the Blue Mountains, according to NSW Police and ABC News Australia.

Emergency services were called shortly before 1pm after reports of three children and a woman with stab wounds inside a vehicle on Waratah Road at Valley Heights, near Springwood. Police said one child was found deceased in the vehicle.

NSW Police said all three children were under the age of five and the woman was in her 40s. The two surviving children and the woman were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital.

Several members of the public were providing first aid while emergency services were being contacted, ABC News Australia reported, citing police information. The supplied police statement did not provide further details about the circumstances of the alleged stabbing or identify any suspect.
