Falling drone debris caused a fire at a petrol station and damaged several trucks near the Yahodyn border crossing in western Ukraine, according to Valentyna Chernysh of the Volyn Customs Service, cited by Euronews. The checkpoint itself was not hit and remained intact.
No one was injured in the incident. Border operations were temporarily suspended during an air-raid alert while customs staff and travelers took shelter. Processing later resumed as emergency workers responded to the fire and damage to a nearby road.
Video from the area showed flames, heavy smoke, firefighters and other emergency personnel at the petrol station. The incident occurred as Russian drones targeted several locations in western Ukraine, a region that has so far experienced less intense fighting than areas farther east, Euronews reported.
A Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train was also struck near the border. Ukraine’s state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said the locomotive was damaged about two kilometers from Poland. Passengers and crew were evacuated after receiving advance warning, and no injuries were reported.
The Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing is a major road link for military and humanitarian supplies entering Ukraine from Poland and other Western allies. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attacks near the border represented Russian “terror” reaching toward the European Union and NATO, and called for European countries to tighten sanctions against Moscow.
Polish officials said the site of the strike was about 800 meters from the Polish border. No injuries were reported on the Polish side, while Ukrainian and Polish authorities continued assessing the impact of the attacks, according to Euronews.
