Troops conducting an operation in Yobe State arrested four suspected Boko Haram members after a night ambush, the Joint Task Force North East said. Captain Mohammed Goni, acting military information officer for Operation Hadin Kai, said troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force, engaged suspected terrorists east of Azare village in Gujba Local Government Area at about 11pm on 21 September 2026. The military said the troops used superior firepower during the firefight.
Blood traces found in the area indicated possible casualties among fleeing terrorist elements, according to Goni. Recovered items included a vehicle, ammunition, four bicycles, groceries, one sheep and spent 7.62mm Special ammunition cases.
The military said the arrests and recoveries formed part of continuing operations intended to weaken terrorist capabilities and restrict their movement. The four suspects and the recovered items were placed in military custody for further investigation. The military also said examination of the surrounding area was continuing.
