Geelong moved above defending premiers North Melbourne at the top of the AFLW ladder after defeating Richmond by 34 points at Princes Park. Chloe Scheer kicked three goals in the 7.12 (54) to 3.2 (20) victory, while Richmond lost forward Laura McClelland to a shoulder injury.

Geelong moved to the top of the AFLW ladder with a 34-point victory over Richmond at Princes Park, securing its seventh consecutive win. The Cats won 7.12 (54) to 3.2 (20), moving above defending premiers North Melbourne after another strong performance. Forward Chloe Scheer was central to the result, kicking three goals in difficult, blustery conditions.

Scheer’s haul took her to 18 goals for the season, level with Hawthorn’s Aine McDonagh at the top of the league’s scoring list. Her return to form follows a period in which she missed the entire 2024 season with a foot injury and the 2025 season with a knee injury. Geelong co-captain Nina Morrison collected 26 disposals, made seven tackles and kicked a goal.

Mikayla Bowen also contributed 20 disposals and seven tackles. Richmond applied sustained pressure early and scored the opening goal through Olivia Wolmarans. Scheer responded for Geelong, which led by two points at quarter-time.

The Tigers regained the lead when Gabby Seymour capitalised on a handball from Wolmarans. Geelong then began to impose itself, with a team move finished by Jacqueline Parry starting a sequence in which the Cats scored five of the next six goals. Jasmin Stewart’s goal after the half-time siren extended Geelong’s lead to 27-20.

The visitors dominated inside 50 entries after the interval and led by 29 points at three-quarter time. Richmond was held scoreless in the final term. Ellie McKenzie was among the Tigers’ better players with 20 disposals and six tackles, but the team missed an opportunity to move into the top eight.

Forward Laura McClelland left the match with a shoulder injury.
