Ibom Air reports 65,000 flights and almost five million passengers

Ibom Air has recorded no fewer than 65,000 flights and transported nearly five million passengers since beginning operations in June 2019, the airline said. Aniekan Essienette, its group manager for marketing and communication, disclosed the figures in a statement issued in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. She said the airline had expanded its fleet to 10 aircraft and now served seven domestic destinations and one regional destination in West Africa.

Essienette said the airline had improved connectivity and supported trade, investment, tourism and business travel. She described Ibom Air as a state-government initiative established to improve connections, stimulate economic activity and demonstrate the ability to build and sustain a world-class institution. She said the airline’s impact extended beyond flight operations.

Supply-chain activity linked to the company had injected more than N60 billion into the local economy, according to her statement. She added that hundreds of Akwa Ibom people worked in leadership, flight operations, engineering, customer service, finance and technical roles at the airline. Essienette made the comments while congratulating Akwa Ibom on the 39th anniversary of its creation.

She also credited the state with sustained investment in infrastructure, human capital, healthcare, education, aviation, tourism and economic development.
