Indian weather service warns of showers and strong winds in Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated light showers, thunderstorms and strong winds across Andhra Pradesh until October 2. The Amaravati office said winds of 30–40 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching 50 kilometres per hour, were likely at isolated locations in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. One or two locations in coastal districts and Rayalaseema may receive light showers during the forecast period.

The department’s bulletin did not indicate that rainfall would be widespread across the state. The forecast is linked to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north-western and west-central Bay of Bengal. The department also identified a trough extending from north interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

The weather systems are expected to contribute to unsettled conditions in parts of the state, including the possibility of thunderstorms alongside the stronger winds. The warning covers the period through October 2, according to the department’s update published on September 28. The bulletin identified coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema as the areas where the strongest isolated winds were possible.

It did not provide additional guidance on damage, transport or school operations. The forecast was issued by the IMD’s Amaravati office in Vijayawada.
