JKCA holds first annual general meeting in nearly a decade after court order

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association held its annual general meeting in Jammu on Sunday after a court order permitted the meeting amid continuing legal disputes over the association’s administration. The AGM was the JKCA’s first in nearly 10 years. A JKCA spokesman said 15 authorised club members, office bearers and association members participated. They discussed preparations for the Irani Cup, which is scheduled to be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar from October 1 to 5, 2026. The spokesman said participants emphasised unity, collective responsibility and a constructive approach among stakeholders.

He said members expressed a commitment to working together to promote cricket across Jammu and Kashmir. The court proceedings followed a petition by Javed Ahmad Kitab, who was suspended as JKCA president in July. Kitab argued that he remained the association’s elected president.

His suspension was followed by the creation of an Apex Council and the appointment of an Ombudsman. The court considered challenges to the AGM notice and allegations that the notice did not comply with the JKCA Constitution, but still permitted the meeting. The matter is scheduled for further proceedings on October 10.

The court was also told that a JKCA election held on January 16, with results declared on May 21, was contrary to the association’s rules. It was alleged that several clubs and representatives who had taken part in earlier meetings were excluded from participating and voting.
