Kaduna police say four arrested after kidnapping attempt and arms operations
Kaduna police say they foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested four suspects in separate operations in Makarfi, Gwantu and areas around Giwa and the railway station. Officers recovered three locally made firearms, 300 rounds of ammunition and other items, while investigations continue into an alleged arms-trafficking network.
The Kaduna State Police Command says it foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested four suspects in separate operations across the state. According to command spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan, the first incident occurred in Gimi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area, in the early hours of September 20. Police and local vigilantes responded after suspected armed bandits attacked a resident and exchanged fire with the attackers.
The suspects fled, while a 20-year-old man was wounded and arrested. Officers recovered a locally made rifle, three cartridges, a locally made pistol, one live round and a bag containing charms. In Gwantu, police said they arrested another suspect on September 21 after tracking him over allegations that he had been intimidating residents.
A locally fabricated pistol was recovered, the command said. A separate operation targeted a suspected arms-trafficking syndicate around Giwa and the railway station axis. Detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested two suspects following surveillance based on intelligence.
Police said they recovered 270 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 rounds of Type 06 ammunition, making 300 rounds in total. The four suspects remain in police custody while investigators work to establish the ammunition’s source and intended destination and identify others who may be connected to the alleged syndicate. Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu praised the officers and vigilantes and ordered intensified operations to find fleeing suspects.
He also urged residents to provide credible information.
