Kishan Reddy backs electoral-roll revision and rejects Congress allegations

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy defended the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and criticised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and A. Revanth Reddy. He said the exercise removed bogus voters, while rejecting allegations of electoral manipulation and opposing a proposal to link future delimitation to State economic output.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy has defended the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over their comments on the process.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, Mr. Kishan Reddy described the Congress allegations about the electoral process as baseless. He said Mr.
Gandhi and Mr. Revanth Reddy should visit West Bengal and observe the impact of the revision exercise before criticising it. The BJP leader claimed that the process had removed bogus voters and strengthened the integrity of electoral rolls.
He questioned whether names of deceased persons or people who had moved to Bangladesh should remain on the rolls, and raised the issue of individuals allegedly registered in more than one Telangana constituency. Mr. Kishan Reddy also rejected Mr.
Revanth Reddy’s claims of irregularities during the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He asked what the Telangana government had done if vote theft had occurred, and questioned Congress criticism of electronic voting machines. He accused the Chief Minister of making politically motivated statements and said Mr.
Revanth Reddy should focus on governance and fulfilling election promises. Mr. Kishan Reddy also described the Chief Minister’s suggestion that future delimitation be linked to Gross State Domestic Product as impractical and unacceptable.
The minister said the BJP supported a consensus-based increase in parliamentary seats. He cited Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s stated proposal to raise the number of seats for southern States from 129 to 195, while accusing the Opposition of blocking the proposal. These claims and political characterisations were made by Mr.
Kishan Reddy at the press conference.
