Kogi opens project discussions with Kuwaiti development institutions

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has led a delegation to Kuwait to seek development financing, technical expertise and strategic partnerships for projects under the Kogi State Development Plan 2024–2056. The visit opened discussions with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Kuwait University, the Al Ahmadi Governorate and Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, according to a statement by Kogi Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Fanwo. At the Kuwait Fund, Ododo presented Kogi’s development priorities to Acting Director-General Rashaid A.

The governor said the state wanted a long-term partnership to convert its water resources, agricultural potential, solid minerals and emerging energy opportunities into jobs, food production and industrial growth. The Kuwait Fund expressed readiness in principle to work with Kogi on priority projects, subject to technical, financial and institutional appraisal.
Proposed areas include water infrastructure, irrigation, agriculture, power and renewable energy, mineral processing, agro-industry, transport, communications, information technology, education and healthcare. The proposed cooperation could also include feasibility studies, engineering designs, technical assistance, institutional capacity building, and environmental and social assessments. Ododo said the projects were linked: stronger water systems could support communities and farming, irrigation could expand year-round agriculture, and reliable energy could underpin processing and industrial activity.
Discussions with Kuwait University focused on education, research, innovation, engineering, agriculture, water-resource management and technology. Ododo met the university’s president, Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, to explore exchanges and collaboration between the institution and tertiary schools in Kogi. The delegation also discussed a possible sister-government relationship with the governor of Al Ahmadi Governorate, Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
A separate meeting with Kuwait’s electricity and water minister covered irrigation, renewable energy and technical cooperation. The visit established a technical process for developing the proposals. Teams are expected to prepare documents, feasibility studies and technical assessments before projects can move forward.
Ododo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait and Ambassador Abubakar Sanusi Aliyu for their support.
