Seventeen-year-old Indian archer Kumkum Mohod defeated Oh Yejin in a shoot-off to win the women’s individual recurve title at the 2026 Asian Games. The victory was her third medal at the Games, made her the first Indian woman to win this event and secured a direct place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Seventeen-year-old Indian archer Kumkum Mohod won the women’s individual recurve gold at the 2026 Asian Games on Saturday, defeating Oh Yejin in a shoot-off after the final ended level at 5-5. Mohod won the deciding contest 10-8, according to the supplied report. The victory made her the first Indian woman to win a medal in the women’s individual recurve event at the Asian Games.

It also secured her qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The gold was Mohod’s third medal at the Games. She had already won gold and silver in the women’s and mixed team events.

Her route to the final included a victory over Korea’s world champion Kang Chaeyong. Mohod took the first set, surrendered the second, and regained the lead in the third. She maintained her advantage through the fourth set and finished the match 6-4 after shooting a 10 with her final arrow.

She then defeated China’s world championship silver medallist Jingyi Zhu. Mohod won the opening set 28-27, while the next two were tied. She took the fourth set 29-28 to complete a 6-2 victory.

The final began badly for Mohod, who lost the opening set 29-27. The second was tied 29-29, but she responded with a perfect third set of three 10s. After conceding the lead in the fourth, she produced another perfect set to force the decider.

Yejin shot an eight first in the shoot-off. Mohod needed at least a nine and responded with a 10 to claim the title. She had entered the Asian Games team after defeating veteran archer Deepika Kumari, a four-time Olympian and former world No.

1 in recurve.
