Lagos community mourns death of Mushin traditional and transport leader

Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, has died at the age of 83, according to a report by Punch Nigeria. Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, and was buried according to Islamic rites after his family announced his death. Faronbi was the Olori Ebi, or head, of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin.
He also held the titles of Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom and Babaloja of Aswani International Market. For decades, he was known in Lagos grassroots politics, real estate and the transport sector. He was also described as a prominent leader in the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
The funeral was attended by relatives, friends, residents and political and community figures. Those who paid their respects included Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Mushin Local Government Chairman Tunbosun Aruwe and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman Dr Oluseyi Jakande. NURTW National President Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, expressed grief in an official statement.
He said Faronbi had made his mark and that his contributions and relationships in the transport and community space would be remembered. Faronbi was also a socialite whose activities were celebrated by Fuji and juju musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma. Punch reported that he was involved in land development and real estate, although some activities in that sector led to legal and communal disputes.
Tributes have continued from political associates, transport stakeholders, socialites and residents of Mushin.
