Man and two grandchildren found dead in Chickballapur farm pond

A 60-year-old man and his two grandchildren drowned in an agricultural pond in Husenapura village, Chickballapur district, according to family members and police. Investigators are considering whether the children slipped into the pond and whether the man died attempting a rescue; relatives also raised a possible electrical accident.
A 60-year-old man and his two grandchildren were found dead in an agricultural pond in Husenapura village, in Karnataka’s Chintamani taluk, on Saturday, according to the Chintamani Rural Police and family members. The deceased were identified as Muninarayanappa and his grandchildren, Ashwin, 10, and Prajwal, 11. Family members said Muninarayanappa regularly visited an Anjaneya Swamy temple on his land on Saturdays.
He left home for the temple with the children on Saturday morning. When the three had not returned by evening, relatives tried to contact them by telephone but received no response. Family members and villagers then searched nearby agricultural fields.
The bodies were found floating in a pond belonging to a farmer identified as Ashwathappa. The pond was near the temple. The family informed police, who visited the site and carried out an initial inspection.
The bodies were recovered and taken to the mortuary at Chintamani Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations. A preliminary suspicion was that the children may have accidentally fallen into the pond while playing. Muninarayanappa may then have entered the water in an attempt to rescue them but was unable to do so because of the pond’s depth.
The family also raised the possibility of an electrical accident. They said electricity wires and a pump set were located near the pond. The available material does not state whether that possibility was confirmed by investigators.
