Mayfair Members’ Club Closes During Police Investigation

Maison Estelle, a private members’ club in London’s Mayfair, has temporarily closed while police investigate allegations of threatening behaviour and whether a weapon was brandished in a nearby street. The Metropolitan Police asked Westminster City Council to review the club’s alcohol licence after an incident on 19 September. The force said the premises was allegedly associated with serious crime, serious disorder, or both.

No injuries were reported. Councillors suspended the licence with immediate effect at a private hearing on Thursday. Westminster City Council said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety after considering the police application and relevant representations.

The police investigation includes whether a firearm or imitation firearm was involved, the force said. It has not stated that a weapon was used, and the circumstances remain under investigation. Maison Estelle said it would close for a few weeks while inquiries continued.

A spokesperson said the safety of staff, members and guests came first, adding that the club was working with the council and police to review its licence conditions and procedures. The club did not oppose the Metropolitan Police application at the hearing, according to the council. A further hearing will take place within 28 days to review the licence.

Located in a Georgian townhouse, Maison Estelle’s website describes the venue as having seven floors, four dining rooms, 11 bars and two floors of nightlife spaces. The club has hosted celebrities including Princess Beatrice, Idris Elba and Kim Kardashian, according to the source material. Membership costs £5,950 a year.
