Mizoram announces Rs 25 lakh rewards for two Asian Games hockey champions

Mizoram will give Indian women’s hockey players Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi Rs 25 lakh each for their contribution to India’s 1-0 victory over China in the 2026 Asian Games final. The win ended a 44-year wait for the women’s title and secured Olympic qualification.
The Mizoram government has announced cash rewards of Rs 25 lakh each for Indian women’s hockey players Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi following the team’s historic gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The two players, who are from Mizoram, were part of the Indian side that defeated defending champions China 1-0 in the final in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The victory ended India’s 44-year wait for the women’s Asian Games hockey title.
Lalremsiami scored the only goal of the final. India’s previous women’s hockey gold at the Games had come in 1982. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma congratulated the Indian team and particularly praised Arjuna Awardee Lalremsiami for her contribution to the victory.
The state government said its announcement recognised the role of both Mizo players in the campaign. The result also earned India an automatic qualification place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Hockey India separately announced rewards for the wider team: each player will receive Rs 11 lakh, while members of the support staff will receive Rs 5.5 lakh.
The triumph drew congratulations from political leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. Adityanath said the team had ended a 44-year wait, while Tamang praised its determination, teamwork and fighting spirit.
