Nigerian Army training urges commanders to improve joint security planning

The Nigerian Army has opened a five-day programme in Jos aimed at improving commanders’ ability to plan and conduct joint responses to security threats. Major General Maxwell Dangana, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, declared the 3 Division Operations Planning Cadre open at the 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment. The programme brings together commanders and representatives from formations under 3 Division, along with personnel from sister security and intelligence agencies.
Dangana said the security environment was increasingly complex and unpredictable. He identified terrorism, insurgency, banditry, communal violence and violent extremism among the threats facing national security, adding that such challenges could be interconnected and develop quickly. He said commanders needed to strengthen their operational competence, adaptability and innovation through effective planning and cooperation across agencies.
Technology, information management and social media, he added, had implications for military operations and the work of other actors. Dangana said protecting communities, lives and property, while supporting civil authorities, depended substantially on the quality of operational planning and commanders’ ability to turn plans into action. Brigadier General Adiyu Aminu, Commander of the 3 Division Garrison, described the course as an opportunity to share experience, review lessons and find practical solutions to operational challenges.
He said cooperation should include intelligence sharing, logistics, communications, execution and post-operation assessment, involving the Army, Air Force, Navy, Police, Civil Defence Corps, DSS and civil authorities.
