Prada Reimagines the Skirt as Milan Fashion Week Opens

Prada opened Milan Fashion Week with a collection that placed skirts at the centre of its Spring-Summer 2027 presentation. The designs included grey pleated and green straight skirts, while floral-patterned minis appeared beneath leather coats or were paired with bras. The collection, created by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, also featured skirts decorated with flowers.

Models largely wore high heels as they walked before a front row that included Naomi Watts, Michelle Williams and Uma Thurman. The runway presentation followed the opening of Prada’s new flagship in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The eight-floor site includes boutiques, a patisserie, a contemporary art space, an underground gallery, a museum and private salons.

The expansion is intended to serve high-spending clients and host events. Prada reported better-than-expected results for the first half of 2026, although margins narrowed during the integration of Versace. The wider luxury market has faced macroeconomic pressures and a prolonged slowdown in China.

Carlo Capasa, head of Italy’s fashion chamber, said the sector had endured a difficult start to 2026 but had held up in the second quarter. The chamber expects industry revenue to fall 1.6% this year, with cosmetics growing, apparel recovering and footwear remaining weak. Milan’s schedule also includes new shows by Moschino’s Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, Gucci under Demna, and Fendi under Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Glenn Martens is due to present his final collection for Diesel.
