Residents leave Kebbi community after reported ethnic clash kills at least 15

Residents of Lafagu community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State have fled to Bagudo town after an ethnic clash reportedly killed at least 15 people, including the community’s district head, Channels Television reports. The violence was said to have involved members of the Fulani and Kambari communities. The reported death toll includes Lafagu’s district head, Alhaji Sa’idu Mujeli, whose killing has increased anxiety among residents.

A member of the district head’s family alleged that the violence began with attacks on Fulani residents. The family member said some attackers then entered Lafagu, moving from house to house in search of Fulani people. The relative further alleged that the attackers reached the district head’s residence, which was set on fire after he was removed from it.

He was later taken elsewhere and shot dead, according to the account. Channels Television said the incident had forced several residents to seek safety in Bagudo. Tension remained high, with displaced residents waiting for security conditions to improve before considering a return.

Authorities were expected to provide more details and explain measures to restore peace and protect residents.
