Russian forces struck the Ukrainian cities of Odesa and Sumy on 16 September, causing deaths, injuries and damage to residential and other buildings, according to Ukrainian emergency services and local officials cited by Euronews.
In Odesa, a drone attack after midday killed one man and set garages on fire, damaging nearby homes and cars. A later strike hit a 19-storey apartment building and injured three people, including a child. Footage released by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service showed firefighters dealing with burning debris and working near damaged buildings.
In Sumy, guided aerial bombs hit the Kovpakivskyi and Zarichnyi districts, affecting residential and industrial areas. Authorities initially reported six injured people, including a 14-year-old girl. They also said two homes had been destroyed, 10 damaged and an educational facility hit.
A subsequent update revised the toll in Sumy to one person killed and nine injured, including two children. Emergency crews searched through wreckage, extinguished fires and cleared areas damaged by the strikes.
