Six killed in separate Plateau attacks despite overnight curfew

Six people, including a police officer, were reported killed in separate attacks in Plateau State despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew in affected areas, according to the Plateau State Police Command and community groups. Police public relations officer Alfred Alabo told Channels Television that gunmen attacked security personnel attached to Operation Rainbow on Tuesday night. A chief superintendent of police was killed along Gagshi Road, between Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas, he said.
Three civilians were also killed at Rakok, also known as Kafi Abu, in Barkin Ladi. In Mangu, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement said three men were ambushed while keeping watch over their community at the boundary between Kyikyau and Gyambwas in Mangu Halle District. It said the attack occurred at about 7.39 p.m., during the curfew period.
The group identified the victims as aged 45, 50 and 35. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association separately reported that a 22-year-old husband and father of two was killed during attacks on Rakwok, Bet, Razat, Gassa and Rakung communities on Monday night. The Plateau Government imposed a 6 p.m.
to 6 a.m. curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu. Community groups called for stronger patrols, faster responses and intelligence-led operations, saying movement restrictions would not be effective if attackers could still operate.
Police said investigations were continuing and urged residents to cooperate with security agencies.
