Nigeria will travel to Bissau for Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier after defeating Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau opened Group L with a 2-0 victory over Tanzania, while Nigeria will be without injured striker Victor Osimhen and has called up Taiwo Awoniyi as his replacement.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will travel to Bissau on Sunday for their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday. The team is scheduled to hold a closed training session in Uyo at 10am before leaving for the airport at 2pm ahead of a planned 3pm departure. The trip comes less than 48 hours after Nigeria began its Group L campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar.

Madagascar took the lead through Ehsan Kari in the 15th minute at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. Nigeria equalised in first-half stoppage time through debutant George Ilenikhena, before another debutant, Moses Usor, scored in the 65th minute. The short turnaround leaves coach Éric Chelle’s side limited time to recover and prepare for the away fixture.

Chelle said Guinea-Bissau would pose a different challenge and that his team would analyse the opening match before deciding how to approach the next game. The coach also declined to confirm whether Nigeria would retain the tactical system used against Madagascar, saying the decision would depend first on the team’s mindset and then on the requirements of the match. Guinea-Bissau began its qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Tanzania, putting the team top of Group L on goal difference ahead of the meeting with Nigeria.

The Super Eagles will seek to build on their opening victory as Chelle continues reshaping the side after Nigeria missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria will be without Victor Osimhen for the opening qualifiers while he recovers from a muscle injury. Taiwo Awoniyi has been called up as his replacement.

The match will be played at Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, with Nigeria due to hold another training session there before the fixture.
