Telangana begins construction of four affordable-housing towers in Hyderabad
Telangana has begun construction of four Indiramma Housing towers in Hyderabad’s Nampally constituency. Telangana Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy laid the foundation stone for four Indiramma Housing towers in Hyderabad’s Red Hills area on Tuesday. The towers will be built on five acres in Nampally, one of 16 constituencies in the Core Urban Region selected for a pilot housing project. Each tower will have a ground floor and 10 upper floors, with 12 flats on each floor.
Reddy said construction would be completed and keys handed to beneficiaries within a year. He also announced that beneficiaries would have an opportunity to inspect the quality of construction of the proposed apartments. Each flat will have a carpet area of 400 square feet and a built-up area of 528 square feet.
The government will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh for each flat, while each beneficiary will contribute ₹6 lakh in four instalments. Beneficiaries were selected through draws held in the previous month. A further draw was conducted after the foundation ceremony to allot flat numbers to Nampally applicants who had paid the first instalment of ₹1 lakh.
The State Housing Board said final allotment letters would also be issued. The government has identified land in 20 constituencies and completed the tender process in at least 16, according to the report. Reddy said contractors were ready to begin work.
He also said the Housing Department would connect the towers’ sewage lines to the main network. Minorities Affairs Minister Mohd Azharuddin, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Nampally MLA Majid Hussain, Hyderabad Collector Priyanka Ala and others attended the event. The housing towers are part of the State’s pilot project to provide affordable flats in the Core Urban Region.
