Three government media officials killed in Mizoram gorge crash

Three Central government media officials were killed and two others injured after their vehicle fell into a deep gorge near Sataek village, about 30 kilometres south of Mizoram’s capital Aizawl, on Thursday, October 1, according to government officials. The deceased were identified as Engam Pame, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communications regional office in Imphal; Nampibou Marinmai, Director (News) at Doordarshan Kendra Aizawl; and H. Lianvela, a staff member of the CBC’s field office in Aizawl.
According to the PIB, Mr. Pame was in Mizoram for meetings connected with the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee and the recruitment of a translator for PIB Aizawl. He and his colleagues travelled to Sialsuk village to attend an event.
The accident occurred while the group was returning to Aizawl. The vehicle veered off the road near Sataek and plunged into the gorge, the source material said. The driver reportedly became unwell, was unable to move his limbs and could not open his eyes.
The driver and another passenger were receiving treatment at Zoram Medical College and Hospital in Aizawl. Mizoram government officials said the bodies of Mr. Pame and Mr.
Marinmai would be sent to their respective hometowns in Manipur after autopsies. Governor Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Mizo National Front president Zoramthanga and the Mizoram Journalists’ Association expressed condolences over the deaths.
