Three Taken Into Custody After Woman’s Dismembered Body Found in Andhra Canal

Police in Vijayawada have taken three people into custody for questioning in connection with the murder of a woman whose dismembered body was recovered from a cooling canal, The Hindu reported. The body was found on September 18 in the VTPS cooling canal, within the limits of Ibrahimpatnam police station in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR Commissionerate. The West Zone police are investigating the case.

Assistant Commissioner of Police N.S.V.K. Durga Rao identified the deceased as Kalyani, also known as Durga. Police said she was 28 and originally from Mangalagiri in Guntur district.

According to the report, Kalyani had been raised in an NGO home at Gannavaram and later married a man from Mangalagiri. The couple had a son, but she separated from her husband after family problems and was living alone. Police said she was allegedly in a relationship with a mutton-shop owner in Bhavanipuram, Vijayawada.

Investigators suspect that she quarrelled with the man on September 17 after demanding money from him. The police believe two people may have killed her and later cut up the body before throwing it into the canal in an attempt to destroy evidence. Officers searched missing-person cases in Andhra Pradesh and in Telangana’s Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Khammam districts before identifying Kalyani.
