Three women have died in separate suspected domestic violence-related incidents across New South Wales within a 24-hour period, according to ABC News. The women were aged 90, 70 and 23.
Emergency services were called to a unit at Bondi Beach at about 5:15pm on Saturday, where they found a 90-year-old woman with stab wounds to her torso. Paramedics treated her, but she died at the scene. Police arrested a 47-year-old man known to the woman and charged him with domestic violence-related murder. He was refused bail and is due to appear before the Bail Division Local Court.
In the Northern Tablelands, police attended a property on Ironbark Road at Mole River, west of Tenterfield, after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident at about 9:30pm. Police said a 37-year-old man had entered the home, attempted to steal a vehicle and assaulted a 74-year-old male resident. After arresting the man, officers found a body believed to be that of a 70-year-old woman on a neighbouring property. Police also said a house had been partly damaged by fire.
The third death occurred in Kooringal, Wagga Wagga. Police were called to a home on Ziegler Avenue at about 11:45am after reports that a man had left the property. An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene and later released without charge. At about 8:30pm, police arrested a 31-year-old man at a nearby home; he was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station while inquiries continued.
Police said the parties in the incidents were believed to be known to each other. An update was expected at a police media conference.
