Troops rescue six university students and driver after Katsina abduction
Nigerian troops rescued six female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and a commercial driver after responding to a distress call about an attack on a vehicle in Katsina State. The victims were found along the Daye–Malumfashi road, underwent security and medical checks, and were handed to officials for reunification.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, rescued six female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and a commercial driver after an abduction in Katsina State, Channels Television reported. The victims were rescued on Monday evening along the Daye–Malumfashi road in Danmusa Local Government Area. The troops had responded to a distress call reporting an attack on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina.
According to a military statement, the troops reached the scene quickly. Their arrival forced the kidnappers to abandon the captives and flee. The six students and the driver were rescued unhurt, the statement said.
After the rescue, the victims underwent preliminary security profiling and medical evaluations. They were then handed over to designated officials for reunification with their families and the university authorities. The military attributed the outcome to the prompt response to the distress call.
It said Operation Fansan Yamma was continuing security operations across the region to protect communities and rescue people abducted in kidnapping and other criminal activities.
