A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in Mildura after police allege she attempted to import about 500 millilitres of 1,4-Butanediol, also known as bute, into Australia.
Victoria Police said the substance was intercepted at Melbourne Airport in June by the Australian Border Force. The interception formed part of a multi-agency investigation into the alleged importation, which was bound for the regional Victorian city.
Detectives from the Mildura Divisional Response Unit arrested the woman at a Mildura address on Friday morning. Victoria Police said the arrest followed the investigation involving multiple law-enforcement agencies.
The woman was charged with the Commonwealth offence of importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled substance. The allegation has not been tested in court.
