Lamine Yamal scored twice as Barcelona beat Levante 4-2 in Valencia on Sunday to maintain their perfect start to the La Liga season, according to Al Jazeera. The result gave Barcelona five wins from five league matches and left them three points ahead of Real Madrid.
Barcelona took the lead after five minutes when a one-touch move ended with 19-year-old Xavi Espart shooting from the edge of the penalty area. The effort took a slight deflection before entering the net and marked Espart’s first senior goal.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 19th minute. Raphinha controlled a through ball from Fermin Lopez before finding Yamal in the centre of the box, where the winger finished. Barcelona continued to dominate possession, although Levante ended the first half with six attempts to Barcelona’s three.
Yamal completed his second double of the season shortly after half-time by converting a penalty. Levante goalkeeper Joan Garcia later beat Victor Garcia to an effort, while Pau Cubarsi and Andreas Christensen combined to keep the shot from crossing the line.
Levante began a late recovery after an errant pass from Espart allowed Ivan Romero to round Joan Garcia and score in the 79th minute. Roger Brugue then reduced the deficit to one goal in the 88th minute after breaking through several challenges, raising the prospect of a draw.
Barcelona secured the points in stoppage time when Karim Adeyemi finished after a run through the Levante defence. Al Jazeera said Rodri’s midfield display and Raphinha’s running were important to the win. The report also noted that Atletico Madrid beat Real Sociedad 3-0 through three late goals, including first strikes for new signings Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David.
