YSRCP prepares candidates and campaign strategy for Visakhapatnam civic polls

The YSR Congress Party has begun preparing its strategy for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation elections, saying it intends to field strong candidates across all wards. The decision was announced at a coordination committee meeting held at the party’s district office on Monday. The meeting was led by district president K.K.

Raju and attended by MLC Botcha Satyanarayana, regional coordinator Kurasala Kannababu, former legislators and other party coordinators. Party leaders described winning the civic elections as a matter of prestige. They recalled what they said was the priority given to Visakhapatnam’s development and public welfare during the YSRCP administration.

The leaders criticised the current alliance government, alleging that it was neglecting the city’s development and the administration of the corporation. They highlighted water shortages, saying some areas were receiving supplies only once every three or four days. Although rainfall had temporarily improved the situation, the party called for a long-term plan to secure drinking water for residents.

It also demanded transparency in the management of government land and assets. The meeting raised environmental concerns around Visakhapatnam, including hill excavation and illegal mining. The party called for protection of areas including Panchadarla Hill, Bavikonda and Simhachalam Hill.

YSRCP leaders also questioned the proposed ward delimitation. They said differences in voter numbers had raised concerns that boundaries might have been drawn for political reasons rather than representation, connectivity and social cohesion. The party said it was consulting legal experts and was prepared to challenge the process if necessary.

It urged officials to consider administrative convenience and population balance while finalising the wards.
