The Zamfara State Government has approved a 95 per cent increase in salaries for health workers across the state, with the new structure effective from 7 September 2026. The Head of Civil Service, Shehu Baraya, announced the decision in a circular dated 10 September. The circular, referenced HS/Z/001/54/VOL.II, was addressed to senior officials including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, permanent secretaries and heads of ministries, departments, agencies, boards and commissions.
The government said the review was intended to strengthen the health sector, improve staff welfare and create better working conditions. It said the revised remuneration was aligned with federally approved health-sector structures, particularly the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, known as CONHESS. The government also said improved pay should raise morale and motivation while supporting productivity and efficiency in healthcare delivery.
The circular directed health workers to reciprocate the adjustment through commitment, professionalism and discipline. Personnel were told to observe official working hours, follow public service rules and comply with ethical standards. Agency heads were instructed to communicate the new structure to affected staff and ensure its implementation.
The revised schedule includes basic salary scales for grades and steps, as well as hazard allowances. Clinical workers on grades one to five are listed for ₦15,200, compared with ₦14,250 for non-clinical staff. On grades six to 12, the figures are ₦30,400 and ₦28,500 respectively.
Grades 13 to 15 carry ₦32,300 for clinical workers and ₦30,400 for non-clinical workers.
