ACB arrests village revenue officer over alleged ₹9,000 bribe

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials of the Guntur Range arrested a Village Revenue Officer while he was allegedly accepting a ₹9,000 bribe at Martur in Bapatla district on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Tella Chinna Anjaneyulu, 49, the VRO of Bollapalli village. He was booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to the ACB, the officer had demanded ₹10,000 from Dhulipalla Subba Rao, 60, of Tativaripalem village. Mr. Subba Rao and his sister, Venkayamma, had submitted applications seeking mutation of agricultural land recorded in the name of their late father, Ramulu.
The ACB alleged that Mr. Anjaneyulu sought the money to process the applications, forward them to the Martur Tahsildar and facilitate their approval. After repeated requests from the complainant, the alleged demand was reduced to ₹9,000, the bureau said.
A trap was then laid near a shop adjoining the National Highway 16 service road at Martur, close to the Tahsildar’s office. The officer was allegedly caught accepting the money there. The ACB said Mr.
Anjaneyulu joined the Revenue Department as a Village Revenue Assistant in 1996 and was promoted to VRO in 2008. He had served at several locations in Prakasam and Bapatla districts. The bureau asked members of the public to report corruption through its toll-free number, 1064, or mobile number 9440440057.
