Adeyemi appears in Abuja court after repeated delays to arraignment

Adeniyi Adeyemi appeared before Nigeria’s Federal High Court in Abuja for arraignment after several earlier attempts to bring him before the court failed. Mr. Adeyemi was led into the courtroom at about 2:33 p.m.

on Wednesday by a female officer from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre. He faces charges alongside two other people, identified as Femi and Anu, who are said to be at large. The case was filed in November 2025 after Mr.

Adeyemi was arrested the previous month following a petition by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. The defendants face eight counts involving alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. Mr.

Adeyemi has denied the allegations. The prosecution alleges that the defendants forged official documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads and documents connected with the take-off of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Other allegations concern requests for staff accounts, office space and collaboration with a federal ministry.

In another count, the prosecution alleges that Mr. Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the council’s Director-General. That offence is punishable under Section 179 of the Penal Code, according to the report.

Police investigators said they recovered correspondence between the purported agency and government institutions and traced 34 bank accounts linked to Mr. Adeyemi. Nine of those accounts were allegedly opened in the names of purported government agencies.

A judge issued a bench warrant in July after another missed appearance. Police later arrested Mr. Adeyemi in Osun State and said he had been traced to a hideout.

His lawyer had previously said he feared for his life and wanted to remain alive to face trial.
