Aiyedatiwa urges Nigerians to share responsibility for nation-building

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has called on Nigerians to work with government to build a stronger country as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence anniversary. He urged citizens to renew their commitment to peace, unity, patriotism and responsible citizenship, while praising federal economic and infrastructure initiatives with implications for Ondo State.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has urged Nigerians to work collectively with government to build a stronger country, saying nation-building cannot be left to public authorities alone. Aiyedatiwa made the call in Akure, the state capital, during celebrations marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary. He said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey, its remaining responsibilities and the future citizens must help shape.
The governor said Nigeria’s independence represented more than an annual commemoration. According to him, it placed a continuing responsibility on successive generations to preserve and improve the country secured by earlier leaders through sacrifice and conviction. He urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to peace, unity, patriotism and responsible citizenship.
Aiyedatiwa said the country people desired would be built through the combined efforts of its citizens and not by government acting alone. The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as efforts by the Federal Government to reform the economy. He said Ondo State appreciated initiatives aimed at strengthening the economy, infrastructure and investment environment, as well as projects with potential implications for the state’s development.
Aiyedatiwa specifically mentioned cooperation around the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the proposed Deep-Sea Port. He said such projects could expand Ondo’s economic prospects and added that the state looked forward to deeper collaboration with the Federal Government in the interest of residents. He said the anniversary should encourage Nigerians to examine what they had done with the inheritance received from previous generations and to contribute to building a more united and prosperous country.
