APM Terminals Apapa has awarded scholarships to 50 undergraduates from its host community, bringing the number supported through the programme to 151. The company said beneficiaries in public universities and other accredited institutions could receive assistance through graduation if they maintain required academic standards.

APM Terminals Apapa has awarded scholarships to 50 undergraduate students from its host community in Apapa, Lagos, expanding a programme focused on education and youth development. The scholarships were presented at the third edition of the company’s scholarship programme. They are open to students enrolled in public universities and other accredited higher institutions across Nigeria.

APM Terminals said the latest awards brought the number of undergraduates supported by the initiative to 151. Chief Executive Officer Koen De Backer said investing in young people was a way of helping to develop future leaders. He urged the recipients to remain focused on their goals, continue learning and pursue personal development.

He said the company measured its success not only through operational performance but also through its effect on the communities where it operates. Terminal Managing Director Kamal Alhraishat said the programme reflected the company’s belief that lasting progress began with investment in people. He identified education, healthcare and environmental sustainability as the three pillars of APM Terminals’ corporate social responsibility strategy.

The company’s Head of People Function, Uzoma Ben-Ude, said the scholarship went beyond one-off financial assistance. Beneficiaries would remain on the programme until graduation provided they maintained the required academic standards. She said the arrangement was intended to reduce pressure on students and their families and allow recipients to concentrate on their studies.

Ben-Ude also highlighted internship opportunities within APM Terminals, saying several scholarship recipients had gained workplace experience through placements. Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area Chairman Jimoh Olawale praised the initiative and recalled the company’s partnership with the council to renovate a health centre reopened in February 2026. Representatives of local authorities and maritime agencies also commended the company for sustaining the programme.
