Arepo power outage blamed on damaged transmission insulator

Electricity supply has been disrupted in Arepo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, after a fault at the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s end of the network. Akinlolu Akinpelumi, secretary of the Arepo Area Community Development Council Electricity Committee, said the fault was caused by a shattered insulator. In a statement to residents on Monday, Akinpelumi said a TCN maintenance crew was attending to the damage.

He expressed hope that engineers would complete the repairs promptly, allowing Ikeja Electric to restore supply. He said the community committee would continue monitoring the work and following up with the relevant authorities. Residents would be informed when further updates became available.

The latest disruption comes after repeated complaints about unreliable electricity in Arepo, a growing community along the Lagos-Ogun axis. Residents have previously reported prolonged blackouts and very limited daily supply. In an earlier complaint reported by Punch, residents threatened legal action over four months of severe outages.

They said they received barely two hours of electricity daily despite being upgraded to Band B under the service-based tariff system. Community leaders have repeatedly engaged Ikeja Electric and transmission authorities over supply problems. Residents are now waiting for the TCN repair to be completed before distribution service can resume.
