BEML unveils 60-tonne electric dump truck for heavy industry
Indian state-owned BEML has unveiled the BH60-EV, described as the country’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-tonne electric dump truck. The company says the vehicle offers zero tailpipe emissions during operation and could reduce operating costs and annual carbon emissions.
BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV, a 60-tonne electric dump truck designed for mining and infrastructure operations, at the company’s Mysuru complex in India. The vehicle was virtually launched on Wednesday by BEML chairman and managing director Shantanu Roy in the presence of senior officials, functional directors and employees. BEML described the truck as India’s first indigenously designed and developed electric dump truck in the 60-tonne class.
According to the company, the BH60-EV combines a high payload capacity with an electric powertrain and engineering focused on operator requirements. It produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation and is intended for demanding heavy-industry applications. BEML said the truck was developed to support cleaner and more efficient mobility in mining and infrastructure.
The company also offers a charging-station solution compatible with site electrical infrastructure and scalable for fleet operations. The company estimates that the vehicle could deliver operating-cost reductions of 40 to 60 per cent compared with conventional diesel equipment. It also estimates an annual reduction of around 130 tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions per vehicle, although it said the result would depend on operating conditions.
Roy said the launch represented a milestone in BEML’s development of electric mobility for heavy industry. He said the vehicle combined indigenous engineering and advanced battery technology with a focus on performance, safety and sustainability. The BH60-EV expands BEML’s electric-vehicle portfolio.
It follows the launch of the company’s 35-tonne electric dump truck on April 10, 2026.
