Tinubu approves extension of 2025 budget implementation to December 2026

President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of Nigeria’s 2025 budget to December 31, 2026. The amendment changes the previous deadline of September 30, 2026.

It was passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, before being sent to the president for assent. Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced the signing in a statement issued on Wednesday. He said the extension would provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies with more time to complete ongoing capital projects.

According to the statement, the measure is intended to ensure that appropriated funds are fully utilised without interrupting critical government programmes.
