Celebrity Traitors cast brings friendships and past collaborations into game

The Celebrity Traitors cast includes comedians, broadcasters, actors and other public figures who already know one another through friendship, television, film and podcasts. BBC News says those connections are shaping trust and suspicion during the programme’s opening episodes.

The early episodes of The Celebrity Traitors are being shaped by relationships that existed before the contestants entered the programme, according to BBC News. Unlike the civilian version, many of the celebrity participants have worked together or are friends outside the show. Those links can influence alliances, suspicion and the consequences of being assigned to opposing sides.

Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are close friends who have worked together on Rob & Romesh Vs and appeared jointly on panel shows. Ranganathan said their friendship would not necessarily prevent either from turning on the other inside the castle. Joe Lycett has said he is friends with James Acaster, and the pair worked together on Travel Man.

Lycett is also friends with Joanne McNally. McNally said the comedians had not coordinated their strategies and were willing to “throw each other under the bus”. Other connections include Lycett’s appearance with Beckett on Last One Laughing, McNally and Ranganathan’s work on Unacceptable, and Acaster’s appearance on Ranganathan’s hip-hop podcast.

Acaster said the comedians who know him well were among his biggest threats. Broadcaster Amol Rajan had previously hosted Michael Sheen and Lycett on Radio 2 Breakfast and interviewed Ranganathan on BBC Asian Network. He had also appeared on The One Show with Ross Kemp, Miranda Hart and James Blunt, and discussed artificial intelligence with Hannah Fry.

Rajan became the first player to be murdered. Maya Jama has worked with or appeared alongside several contestants, including Blunt, Ranganathan, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Lycett and Acaster. Bella Ramsey and Sebastian Croft both appeared in Game of Thrones’ sixth season.

Ramsey also worked with Blunt and appeared on programmes involving Acaster and Ranganathan. Jerry Hall defended Richard E Grant after pressure in the opening episode. The pair are neighbours and have also been photographed together and acted in the 2004 children’s film Tooth.
