The Central Industrial Security Force has held full-honours funerals for four personnel who died after an alleged colleague-on-colleague shooting at the Sewa-III Hydro Electric Project in Kathua district. The force said it would support the bereaved families, while the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

The Central Industrial Security Force has paid tribute to four personnel killed in an alleged fratricide incident at the Sewa-III Hydro Electric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. The CISF said on Thursday that the last rites of Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Laxman Singh, Constable Sanjeev Kumar and Constable Md Rafiq were conducted at their native places with full honours and in line with official protocol. The four were posted at the hydroelectric project in Mashka, in the Basohli area of Kathua.

According to the force, a Head Constable from the 2009 batch reportedly argued with colleagues on September 29 and allegedly opened fire with an AK-47. Four personnel were injured and later died from their injuries. Pandey, who joined the CISF on October 3, 2015, was cremated at his native village of Mathiya Daulatpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar district.

Singh, who joined the force in August 2013, was accorded full honours at Loona village in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. Kumar, a CISF member since October 2013, was cremated at Rameen village in Jammu district. Rafiq, who joined the force in March 2010 and had served for more than 16 years, was laid to rest at Kandali village in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceremonies included a guard of honour and ceremonial salute in the presence of relatives, colleagues and other family members. The force expressed condolences and said it stood with the families in their grief. “The Force holds it a solemn duty to stand by the bereaved families,” the CISF said, adding that it would provide support and assistance in accordance with the rules.

The supplied material does not give further details about the alleged shooter or the status of any inquiry.
