Dangote Group calls for stronger domestic production to build resilience

The Dangote Group has urged Nigeria to increase domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports, arguing that production capacity is essential to economic resilience. The company said its investments span cement, sugar, fertiliser, packaging, petrochemicals, refining and other sectors, while business leaders highlighted their contribution to jobs and local enterprise.
The Dangote Group has called for greater domestic production, saying Nigeria’s economic resilience will depend on expanding the capacity to manufacture goods that can be produced competitively at home. The group made the appeal at its special day at the Abuja International Trade Fair. Group General Manager Abdullahi Bello Danmusa represented Regional Director and Senior Adviser Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, according to a statement issued on Sunday.
Danmusa said trade would have a greater economic effect when supported by strong production. He argued that excessive reliance on imports weakened the economy when the country had the potential to make products domestically. He said Dangote Group continued to invest in manufacturing and industrial capacity across cement, sugar, salt and seasoning, packaging, fertiliser, petrochemicals and petroleum refining.
According to him, stronger domestic manufacturing could deepen economic activity, create jobs, support local businesses and reduce dependence on imported goods. Danmusa also said the company treated its tax obligations seriously and contributed revenue to government while supporting employment, enterprise and value creation. He presented domestic production as a choice between continuing to import goods that Nigeria could make and building the capacity to produce, compete and export.
First Deputy President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry Adebisi Adesugba commended Dangote’s contribution to economic development. He cited investments in cement, fertiliser, agriculture, refining and petrochemicals as supporting local production, jobs and foreign-exchange generation. The trade-fair event brought together business leaders, government representatives, investors, exhibitors and entrepreneurs to discuss taxation, trade, industrialisation, investment and domestic production.
Adesugba described the relationship between Dangote and the chamber as a platform for promoting commerce and entrepreneurship.
