Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has announced plans to establish a military base in communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area. The governor made the announcement during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Adamu. The attacks claimed the lives of the Village Head of Lafagu and other residents, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris.
Idris said the proposed base would provide a stronger security presence and help prevent further attacks. He said the government was working with security agencies to track those responsible and restore normalcy in the affected communities. The governor also visited camps housing people displaced by the attacks.
He assured the residents that the government would continue supporting them until it was safe for them to return to their villages. He said his administration was working to ensure that internally displaced people could go back to their ancestral homes. Idris urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information about suspicious people and activities.
He warned them against taking the law into their own hands or resorting to self-help, saying cooperation with security personnel was necessary to achieve a lasting solution. The District Head of Kaoje thanked the governor for visiting the affected community and for taking steps to address the insecurity. Adamu condemned the attacks as “un-Islamic and inhuman”.
The governor did not provide a timetable for the establishment of the military base or details of its planned personnel and equipment.
