Eguavoen names 28-player squad for Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifier

Nigeria interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for the Super Falcons’ second-round qualifying tie for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie are among the senior players selected. The squad also includes defenders Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, Ashley Plumptre and Shukurat Oladipo, midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, and forwards Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu.
Several younger players have also been included. They are Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei. The players have been instructed to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3.
Nigeria’s opponents, Comoros, are scheduled to host the first leg on Friday, October 9. The return leg will take place on Tuesday, October 13. Both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football for international matches.
The squad’s goalkeepers are Nnadozie, who plays for Brighton Hove & Albion, Comfort Erhabor of Portsmouth Ladies and Edo Queens goalkeeper Uzoma. The defenders are Alozie, Oladipo, Abdulwahab, Glory Ogbonna, Demehin, Glory Edet, Plumptre and Adeshina. The midfield group also includes Joy Igbokwe, Nkwocha, Fatimoh Solaty and Suliat Abideen.
The forwards are Ajibade, Oshoala, Flourish Sabastine, Moshood, Monday, Joy Omewa, Blessing Nkor, Adegbuyi, Akekoromowei and Kanu. Nigeria must win the tie on aggregate to advance to the third round of a five-fixture qualifying campaign scheduled to conclude next December.
